The Katha Upanishad is a significant ancient Sanskrit corpus of Vedanta sub-schools and an influential ruti for Hinduism’s various schools. The Katha Upanishad (Kahopaniad) is a mukhya (basic) Upanishad found in the last eight brief parts of the Krishna Yajurveda’s Kaha school. It is also known as the Khaka Upanishad and is the third of the 108 Upanishads in the Muktika canon.
The Katha Upanishad claims that “Atman (Self) exists,” offers the precept “seek Self-knowledge, which is Highest Bliss,” and elaborates on this assumption, as do the other Hindu Upanishads. The second step is the transition from temporal relationships to the universal significance of all things, which is found in the all-encompassing Vaisvanara, also known as Hiranyagarbha in its higher manifestation and Virat in its lower universal form, which is represented by Yama’s second boon.
The third step is the ascension from the universal to the Absolute, which is Nachiketas’ third boon, which Yama reluctantly grants after putting him to a severe test in the form of supernormal sense and ego temptations, to which even the best minds cannot help but succumb when placed in favorable circumstances.
The Upanishad takes us to the subject of yoga itself. Yoga is defined as an entire process through which an individual gets attuned to the Supreme Being. It is the law ruling the cosmos, manifested in the conscious activity of every awakened individual, not a dogma or a tradition. This beautiful theme’s primary text is the Upanishad.
