Former Team India cricketer Virender Sehwag is regarded as one of the world’s most aggressive opening batsmen. He is credited with teaching us how to play Test cricket fearlessly. In his career, Virender Sehwag has had many memorable innings. Who can forget the 309-run innings against Pakistan in Multan? Sehwag became known as the ‘Sultan of Multan’ after this memorable inning.
This honour was also bestowed upon these two players.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has now bestowed a high honour on Virender Sehwag. Sehwag has been inducted into the ICC’s ‘Hall of Fame’. Apart from Sehwag, the ‘Hall of Fame’ also includes former Indian women’s team player Diana Edulji and Sri Lankan legend Aravinda de Silva. This brings the total number of players inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame’ to 112.

Seven Indian players have received this honour before Virender Sehwag and Diana Edulji. Vinoo Mankad was named to this list in 2021. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, received this honour in July 2019. Rahul Dravid received this honour in 2018, while Anil Kumble received it in 2015. Sunil Gavaskar and Bishan Singh Bedi were inducted into the inaugural ‘ICC Cricket Hall of Fame’ in 2009. Kapil Dev received this honour in 2010.

‘I want to thank the ICC and the jury,’ said Sehwag, 45. I enjoyed hitting the cricket ball the most and am grateful to have done so in my life. I’d also like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and fans who prayed for me.

Virender Sehwag had scored 8586 runs in 104 test matches, including 23 centuries. Veeru’s career high was 319, which he achieved against South Africa. He is Team India’s only player to have two triple centuries. In One Day Internationals, Virender Sehwag scored 8283 runs, including 15 centuries and 38 half-centuries. Sehwag’s highest One Day International score was 219 runs. Apart from that, Sehwag has 394 runs to his name in 19 T20 Internationals.
