Project Details

The project studies how a flat plate that spins freely in a moving fluid can be used to harvest more energy, by applying an outside turning force (torque) to it. Its code is RM00159G_SN. Prof. Amitabh Bhattacharya of the Applied Mechanics department is the principal investigator, and the ANRF (earlier SERB) funds the work.

Educational Qualification

You can apply with either of these:

  • A doctorate (Ph.D.) in a relevant engineering field, or
  • An M.Tech. in first class, backed by a minimum of three years of research work in computational fluid mechanics.

Accepted branches include Applied Mechanics, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, as well as related fields.

Eligibility Criteria and Skills

IIT Delhi wants a candidate who can show real work in simulating how fluids and solid structures affect each other, using the open-source tool OpenFOAM. You should also be strong in higher-level fluid mechanics, write code in C++, and be used to running jobs on high performance computing clusters.

Who Should Apply

This post suits researchers who have already worked on CFD codes during a Ph.D. or long M.Tech. project. If your work so far has been mainly experimental, or limited to commercial CFD software, you may find it hard to meet the OpenFOAM and C++ needs. Mention your published papers, code you have written and cluster experience clearly in Form IRD/REC-4, since shortlisting may use criteria above the minimum.

Salary and Pay Scale

The RA will get a consolidated fellowship of Rs. 58,000 per month, plus HRA at 27%. The contract is renewed yearly or runs up to the end of the project, whichever is earlier. If a retired government employee is selected, the pay will be fixed as per IRD norms.

Selection Process

  1. IIT Delhi may set higher criteria to shortlist from eligible applicants.
  2. The list of shortlisted candidates and the online interview details will be posted on the IRD website.
  3. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the online interview.

Exam Pattern and Merit Points

There is no written test or points table. Shortlisting depends on your degree, marks and research experience, followed by the online interview.

  1. Download Form No. IRD/REC-4 from the IRD website of IIT Delhi.
